Celebrate the day with a few pirate-themed books. Here are a few that I like:
Pirate Boy by Eve Bunting is a captivating and beautifully illustrated book about a boy who imagines being a pirate and a mom who promises that wherever he goes, she will follow.
How I became a Pirate by Melinda Long and David Shannon is a delightfully imaginative and silly adventure story of a young boy who joins a bunch of swashbuckling pirates on an adventure on the high seas.
Pirate Past Noon – Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborn follows our favorite adventurers Jack and Annie as they explore the pirate life.
How to be a Pirate by Sue Fliess is a fun, rhyming read-aloud full of fun, timely pirate expressions and vocabulary – Yo ho ho!
Need a quick game? Pop the Pirate is a hit with my students of all ages. Something about the element of suspense keeps the kids attentive while practicing speech sounds, answering vocabulary questions, and addressing other speech therapy goals. This is a great, activity to keep in your talk like a pirate day activities for kids box, or to use anytime of the year.
